Hinds softball coach headed to LSU-Eunice
Andy Lee
06/20/2008 -
Andy Lee, former head softball coach at Hinds Community College, has accepted the head coaching position at Louisiana State University-Eunice (LSU Eunice). Lee’s new role will be effective immediately.
Lee, a Hinds alum and Delta State University graduate, has spent the previous seven years as a coach on the Raymond Campus, working four seasons as the pitching coach for the Hinds baseball team, and the previous three seasons as the Lady Eagles head softball coach.
Lee has experienced a tremendous amount of success in a short amount of time. In 2006, his first season at the helm, the Lady Eagles finished 22-24 and narrowly missed out on the state playoffs. The turnaround was remarkable due to the fact that Hinds had only won five games the previous season.
The 2007 campaign saw the Lady Eagles finish with a 33-21 overall record and earn runner-up honors in the state tournament and third in the regional tournament. In 2008, Lee was one game away from leading Hinds to the Division II World Series, as the Lady Eagles (34-20) were defeated by Co-Lin Community College in the regional championship game.
Lee, who has also received his master’s degree from Jackson State University, has an overall record of 89-65 (.580%) in three seasons as a head coach.
“I am looking forward to heading to Eunice because it presents a new challenge for me,” said Lee. “They have a tremendous amount of resources available and the state of Louisiana has a great track record of putting out a number of very good high school softball players.”
Although he is looking forward to the new opportunity, Lee will surely miss the camaraderie and friendships that he developed at Hinds.
“Hinds has been, and always will be, very special to both my wife and I,” said Lee. “We both graduated from here and have spent the last seven years living here in Raymond, so it will be difficult to leave it behind.”
“I want to thank Dr. Clyde Muse (Hinds President) and coach Gene Murphy (Hinds athletic director) for giving me the opportunity to work here in Raymond. It was a great place to live and work, and I wish them nothing but the best in the future.”
A search for Lee’s replacement is currently being conducted by the athletic department and school administrators at Hinds. The committee hopes to reach a decision in the coming weeks.
