The always tough Pearl River Community College Wildcats came into Raymond on Thursday night and took care of business, soundly defeating the home standing Eagles of Hinds Community College, 37-10. The win moves Pearl River to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in South division play, while Hinds sits at 2-2 and 1-1 in the South.

Emil Jones connected with Rashod Henry in stride for a 60-yard touchdown pass, and Corey Carlson added the point after with 11:31 left in the first quarter to give Pearl River an early 7-0 advantage.

Hinds would tie the score at seven when Wesley Mounger of Clinton found Treyvias Alexander of Breaux Bridge, La. for a 37-yard touchdown pass, and Parker Ware of Brandon knocked the PAT through to knot things up.

The score remained tied until the final minute of the first half, when things went awry for Hinds. A one-yard touchdown pass by Jones to Ray Chisholm and a Carlson PAT made it 14-7 with 0:42 left in the half.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Hinds return men failed to receive the ball, while a Pearl River special teams player picked up the loose ball on the 32-yard line. Two plays later, Jones would hit Desmond Ratliff for a beautiful 33-yard touchdown reception. The Carlson point after with 12 seconds left would put Pearl River up 21-7 going into halftime.

Ware would try to keep the Eagles in the game when his 45-yard field goal attempt was good, but the 21-10 margin with 11:57 left in the third quarter was just too much for Hinds to overcome.

A Pearl River safety with five minutes left in the third put the Wildcats up 23-10, and they would stretch this lead even further, as Hendrick Leverette picked off a Mounger pass, but fumbled the interception. However, teammate Devin McNair was right on the spot, picking up the loose ball and rumbling 32 yards for the score. Carlson's point after gave the Wildcats a 30-10 advantage with 1:02 left in the third.

Brandon Peters would tack on one more score for Pearl River, as he took a handoff 40 yards to the house for a touchdown. Carlson made one final point after to make the score 37-10.

The two teams combined for an amazing 24 penalties on the evening.

Mounger, who has a bum shoulder, finished 8-of-17 with 109 yards passing and one touchdown pass and one interception. Alexander had four catches for 74 yards and the lone TD.

Aaron Woolfolk of Maringouin, La. had another big night on the ground for Hinds, carrying the ball 23 times for 114 yards.

Jones was 18-of-30 for 240 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Hinds will welcome South division foe Jones County Junior College to Raymond next Thursday. The 7:30 p.m. matchup is the annual Homecoming game for Hinds.
