The Northwest Community College Rangers came into town on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and soundly defeated the home standing Hinds Community College Eagles, 31-3. Both teams are now 1-1 on the 2008 season.
Jeremiah Revord of Northwest started things off quickly, as his 31-yard field goal sailed through the uprights to put the Rangers ahead 3-0.
Parker Ware of Brandon would tie the game up at 3 with 13:31 left in the second quarter, but the Eagles would not be able to find the end zone the rest of the afternoon.
Northwest QB Casey Weston put the Rangers ahead to stay when he connected with Roderick Jefferson on a 59-yard touchdown strike. Revord's PAT gave Northwest a 10-3 lead.
After a V.J. Street interception, the Rangers were in prime territory on the Eagles 11 yard line. Tijuan Green would take the handoff on the next play for 11 yards and a score. The Revord point after moved the Northwest lead to 17-3.
Hinds would fumble the next play from scrimmage, leading to a 25-yard dart from Weston to Marquise Green with 25 seconds left in the first half. Revord's PAT set the halftime score at 24-3, with 17 Ranger points coming off turnovers.
The offense was as somewhat of a standstill in the second half, with the lone score being a Green three-yard run. Revord would tack on the point after to finalize the scoring at 31-3.
Hinds struggled offensively all afternoon, as quarterback Wesley Mounger of Clinton had a tough outing, finishing 12-for-30 with 160 yards passing and two interceptions.
Weston, who was on the mark all day with a number of different receivers, had 230 yards passing and two touchdowns on 23 completions in 40 attempts.
Hinds will look to regroup next week when they travel to Decatur to take on East Central Community College in their first road game of 2008. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
