The Hinds Community College football team won its first game of the 2008 season in sloppy fashion 23-12 over Northeast Community College. The Eagles of Hinds and Tigers of Northeast both finished with multiple penalties, but Hinds was able to overcome their first game jitters and come out on top.

Hinds is now 1-0 on the year, while Northeast falls to 0-1.

Hinds took  the lead in the early going when Northeast quarterback Aaron Kissinger fell on his own fumble in the end zone to give the Eagles a safety and a 2-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the first quarter.

Hinds would extend their lead with 11:53 to go in the second half when quarterback Wesley Mounger of Clinton found Vernon Wolfe of Vicksburg for a 20-yard touchdown strike. Parker Ware of Brandon added the point after to give Hinds a 9-0 advantage.

Mounger would later hook up with Cole Michael of Jackson with less than one minute to play in the first half for an 11-yard TD. The Ware PAT pushed the Eagles lead to 16-0 at the break.

Northeast came out gunning in the second half, as quarterback Emanuel Francis hit Jeremy Cannon with an 11-yard touchdown reception, but the two-point conversion failed, cutting the lead to 16-6 with 10:41 left in the third quarter.

The score would remain 16-6 going into the final frame.

Frances would help Northeast cut into the lead again, this time connecting with Mario Nash for a 28-yard TD. A missed PAT gave Hinds a little breathing room, as the Eagles still led 16-12 with 9:46 to play.

Mounger would put the proverbial icing on the cake with 4:47 to go, as he scampered one yard for the touchdown. Another Ware point after would finish the scoring on the evening at 23-12.

Mounger was a force for Hinds in his first collegiate start, passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 17 for 23 passing. The former Clinton High School star also rushed for 69 yards and one touchdown.

Wolfe finished with 94 yards receiving and one touchdown for Hinds.
Frances threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns to lead Northeast.
