Maslau competes in NJCAA tennis nationals

Hleb Maslau of Minsk, Belarus competed in the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) men's tennis tournament. The international sensation, who was the number one player in the state of Mississippi in 2008 after winning both the state and regional titles, lost to the number one player and eventual national champion in the tournament semifinals.
Maslau had a strong showing in the event, beating the #3, #16 and #36 players in the nation along the way. He defeated Dominic McLuskey of Tyler (Texas) Junior College 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. McLuskey was the number three seed at the time and beat Maslau out for National Rookie of the Year honors.
The Hinds tennis program also received honors for their team performances as well, as the Eagles finished 20th in the nation and Hinds head coach Shawn Garrick was named 2008 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Coach of the Year.
