Seven Hinds softball players receive postseason honors

Seven members of the Hinds Community College softball team were recently named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State team. Two Lady Eagles were also named to the All-Region team.
The All-State honorees are:
Lauren Bush of Clinton, a sophomore outfielder, who hit .327 with16 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
Kala Griffith of Brandon, a sophomore outfielder, who hit .368 with 13 doubles, four home runs, four triples and 48 RBIs. Griffith also stole 41 bases in 44 attempts.
Lauren Johnson of Vicksburg, a sophomore infielder, who hit three home runs with 10 doubles and a .414 batting average, along with 50 RBIs.
Candace Pocorello of Pride, La., a sophomore infielder, who led the Lady Eagles with a .417 batting average. Pocorello also tied for the team lead in runs scored with 49 RBIs, while stealing 20 bases in 22 attempts.
Mary Alice Roy of Pride, La., a sophomore infielder, who tied for the team lead in runs scored with 49 with Hinds and former high school teammate Candace Pocorello. Roy added 26 RBIs, 26 stolen bases in 27 attempts and a .400 batting average.
Brandi Westerfield of Richland, a freshman pitcher/infielder, who was 17-10 in the circle with a 2.38 ERA in 179 innings pitched. Westerfield also hit .321 with 33 RBIs.
Katie Williamson of Pearl, a freshman outfielder, hit .297 with seven doubles and 24 RBIs.
Kala Griffith and Mary Alice Roy were also named to the All-Region 23 team for their outstanding play.
