Softball drops game one to Gulf Coast
04/25/08 -  The Hinds softball team lost by a score of 12-2 to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday in the opening round of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MACJC) state tournament.

The Lady Eagles struggled all day to string together an offensive attack against the defending state champions.

Brandi Westerfield of Richland took the loss in the circle for Hinds, now 31-17 on the season.

Hinds will now take on Central division foe East Central Community College at 1 p.m. on Friday at Clinton High School.

East Central was the winner of game one versus Itawamba Community College, but lost their second game of the day against South division champion Co-Lin Community College.

Results from day one of the 2008 state softball tournament:
Game 1: East Central CC defeated Itawamba CC, 9-1
Game 2: Gulf Coast CC defeated Hinds CC, 12-2
Game 3: Co-Lin CC defeated East Central CC, 6-0
Game 4: Gulf Coast CC defeated Northeast CC, 2-0

Game times for Friday’s action are 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
