The Hinds softball team has caught fire recently, winning seven games in a row and moving to first place in the Central division standings. Hinds is 27-16 overall on the season, with a stellar 11-3 mark in division play.

The month of April has been very kind to the Lady Eagles, as Hinds has won eight of nine, including two forfeit wins over Rust College. The Lady Eagles started actual play on April 5, splitting a doubleheader series with East Central Community College.

After losing game one to the Lady Warriors, Hinds has won seven straight, including doubleheader sweeps of Holmes Community College, Itawamba Community College and East Mississippi Community College. More impressive about the sweeps were that the last two came on the road after traveling many hours to get to each location.

Taylor James of Madison and Brandi Westerfield of Richland have been dominant in the circle as of late. James is 9-6 with a 3.05 ERA in 74 innings pitched, while Westerfield is 9-8 with a 2.27 ERA in 117 innings.

Candace Pocorello of Pride, La. has been a spark for the Lady Eagles, hitting .366 and scoring 30 runs with 10 stolen bases. Lauren Johnson of Vicksburg has also been on a tear after missing early season action. The sophomore is currently batting .423 with six doubles, two home runs and 29 RBIs.

Hinds will travel to Meridian on Wednesday to take on Meridian Community College in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The two game set is the final district series of 2008.
