04/04/08 Hinds Community College softball coach Andy Lee has announced the signing of two out-of-state players for the 2008-2009 season. Brooklyn Mendez of Fontainebleau (La.) High School, and Meghan McDaniel of Covington (La.) High School have both inked with the Lady Eagles.

Mendez, who has been a starter at Fontainebleau since her freshman year, has played third base but has recently switched to the outfield. Mendez is a powerfully built player who also brings speed to the table, Lee said.

McDaniel is a catcher and pitcher for Covington. She made the All-District team as a sophomore and junior and was an honorable mention All-State honoree in 2007. McDaniel was also a four-year letter winner in volleyball and was on the first-team All-District unit in 2006 and 2007.

"I am pleased that we are getting Brooklyn and Meghan," Lee said. "I look forward to both of them contributing immediately and being a big part of our success next season."
