Hinds men’s soccer drops playoff; ends terrific season
11/06/07 – The men’s soccer team at
Hinds Community College saw their 2007 season come to an end on
Saturday, losing to Northern Oklahoma College, 4-1 in Tyler, Texas. The
Eagles were playing in the Southeast District Championship, and a win
would have propelled them to the national tournament.
Bruce Snow of Brandon scored the lone Eagle goal on Saturday.
Hinds finished with a 15-4-1 overall record and earned
their fourth straight Mississippi Association of Community and Junior
Colleges (MACJC) and Region XXIII with a victory over Mississippi Gulf
Coast Community College on Oct. 21.
The Eagles scoring charge was led in 2007 by Michael
Cooper of Vicksburg, who tallied 60 total points behind 25 goals.
Daniel Junkin of Brandon followed Cooper with 13 goals of his own.
Snow and Brandt Sutton, also of Brandon, contributed with 20 points and 23 points respectively.
Donald Garrett of Florence was the stabilizer in goal
all season for Hinds, stopping 48 shots and only allowing 18 goals on
the season. His 1.191 goals against average was among the nation’s
leaders.
Hinds saw 20 freshmen play significant amounts for them
this season, and their experience should prove valuable for the 2008
season.
