Hinds men prep for district play

10/31/07 – The Hinds men’s soccer team, who is coming off of their fourth straight state and regional championship two weeks ago, will travel to Tyler, Texas, to take on Northern Oklahoma College 3 p.m. Friday. If Hinds wins, they will play for the championship on Saturday versus the winner of the San Jacinto Junior College-Ranger Junior College game on Friday.

Michael Cooper of Vicksburg leads the scoring the charge for Hinds, scoring 25 goals and adding 12 assists. Daniel Junkin of Brandon has also been a force on offense, scoring 13 goals to go along with five assists. Goalkeeper Donald Garrett has been the stabilizing force in the goal for Hinds, 15-3-1 overall, only allowing 18 goals in 1,360 minutes.

The Eagles will face a stiff test in Northern Oklahoma, who currently sports a 16-1-1 record and is ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA poll. They are led by Sam Vernalls and his 25 goals on the season.
