Hinds golf places third in the Eagle Ridge Invitational
2/28/08 The Hinds Community College golf team placed third in the annual Eagle Ridge Invitational this past weekend. The invitational was a 12-team event that featured schools from the Mississippi junior college ranks.


Hinds finished with a total of 638 strokes over the two-day event. The event was won by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, who finished with a total score of 601. The top individual scorer of the event was Adam Porter of Pearl River Community College, who finished with a score of 146, shooting a three-over 75 on the first day and a one-under 71 on the final day to win.

Elliott Bingham (Hillcrest Christian School) and Payne Dearman (Central Hinds Academy) both finished with a score of 156 to tie for 10th place overall. Bingham shot a 74 on day one, but struggled on day two, finishing with an 82. Dearman shot a score of 78 on day one and two to tie Bingham.

“We finished third, just as we did last year,” said Hinds coach Anthony Price. “We have to do much better with our short game to be competitive, but we are working hard on that.”

Hinds will travel to Forest this weekend to play in the East Central Invitational. The event will take place on Sunday and Monday at the Forest Country Club.
