Hinds baseball signs Conner Butts of Terry
04/03/08
Conner Butts of Terry High School, a left-handed pitcher/first baseman, has signed a baseball scholarship with Hinds Community College for the 2008-2009 season.
Butts is the ace pitcher for the Bulldogs, who are currently ranked 10th in the state in the latest Clarion-Ledger high school baseball poll. Butts, who has hit five home runs so far in 2008, has been named Top Performer by the same publication on numerous occasions during his senior season.
Butts was named Top Performer in the March 25 edition, as he pitched a five-inning one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a 14-0 win over Natchez High School.
“We are very pleased that Conner has signed with Hinds,” said Hinds coach Sam Temple. “We are losing our best left-handed pitcher after this season in David Mooney, and Conner should be able to come in and take his place next season. Left-handed bats and pitchers are hard to come by, and I know we got a good one in Conner.”
Butts will be joined at Hinds by former teammates Bubba Davis and Charlie Shearer, two former Terry standouts currently playing for the Eagles.
