About Hinds
Hi-Steppers Chapter
The Hinds Community College Hi-Steppers are the third oldest precision dance team in the nation. In the 50+ years of Hi-Steppers, thousands of young ladies have experienced a sisterhood like no other. To continue the tradition, the Hi-Stepper Alumni Chapter was formed in 1983. Since their formation, this alumni chapter has been a very active group on and off the Hinds Campus.
A special feature each year is their participation in the Homecoming activities on the Raymond Campus as a "special guest performance" during half time and it has become a crowd favorite with all the "young people". The Hi-Steppers Alumni Chapter continues to be involved in community projects and is able to partner with the current Hi-Steppers group. One community highlight is their participation in Santa's Toy Chest at WLBT along with the current Hi-Stepper group. In 1996, the Hi-Steppers Alumni held their first Gala in which the Anna Cowden Bee Endowed Scholarship was established honoring Mrs. Anna Bee, Hi-Stepper Director.
By the 1999 Gala, endowment status had been reached and the first scholarship was awarded in the 2000-2001 school year. Since reaching endowment status, the chapter has been able to award a full one year scholarship to a selected Sophomore Hi-Stepper. It is the hope of the Hi-Steppers Alumni Chapter to further the endowment so that more than one scholarship can be awarded each year in the future.
Membership
Annual membership dues of $25 ($10 for general alumni membership and $15 for membership in the Hi-Steppers Alumni Chapter) entitles you to a one-year membership which includes the following benefits:
• Membership in the overall Hinds Community College Alumni Association
• A Hi-Stepper alumni lapel pin
• Subscription to Hindsight magazine
• Invitation to the Annual Hi-Stepper Alumni Gala
• Recognition at the Annual Gala for those in attendance
• Satisfaction that you have given HCC's Hi-Steppers an opportunity to participate in both academics and community service at a national level
Membership is open to former Hi-Steppers of Hinds Community College. Anyone wishing to join or make a gift to the Hi-Steppers Alumni Chapter can complete a membership form or a Hi-Steppers Alumni Chapter brochure and mail to: Alumni Association, Hinds Community College, PO Box 1100, Raymond, MS 39154-1100.
