Federal Grant Program
The following is a listing of the State and Federal Grant Programs offered at Hinds Community College. We have also provided some links that will be useful in helping you find out more information on these programs.

Federal Pell Grant
The Federal Pell grant is money that is available to undergraduate students who have not received a baccalaureate degree. This money does not have to be paid back, as long as you remain enrolled more than 60% of that semester. The U.S. Department of Education uses a standard formula to evaluate the information the student provides on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine his/her eligibility. This formula produces an Expected Family Contribution. (EFC), and the students Pell award is determined using this EFC. The award can be between $400 and $4,025 per award year. These funds are divided equally between fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's account. Any remaining balance of financial aid (after fees are paid) is mailed to the student after mid-term of the enrolled semester.

Federal Supplemental Equal Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The FSEOG grant is money available to undergraduate students who meet eligibility criteria. Eligibility is determined using a standard formula to evaluate the information the student provides on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FSEOG is awarded to the student with exceptional financial need or the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Priority is given to students who receive Federal Pell Grants. This money does not have to be paid back, as long as you remain enrolled more than 60% of that semester.

The award can be between $100 and $4000 an award year depending on the funding levels at the institution. These funds are divided equally between fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's account. Any remaining balance of financial aid (after fees are paid) is mailed to the student after mid-term of the enrolled semester.

Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Program (LEAP) - formerly State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG)
LEAP is a federal grant with state matched funds awarded to Mississippi residents who are enrolled as full-time students (12 or more hours). Eligibility is determined using a standard formula to evaluate the information the student provides on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Recipients must illustrate a substantial need. This financial need may include, but is not limited to, the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and the difference between a student's cost of education and the available resources to meet that cost. This money does not have to be paid back, as long as you remain enrolled 60% of that semester.

The award can be between $200 and $2000 an award year depending on the funding levels at the institution. These funds are divided equally between fall and spring semesters and credited to the student's account. Any remaining balance of financial aid (after fees are paid) is mailed to the student after mid-term of the enrolled semester.

Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
The Academic Competitiveness grant is Federal money available to undergraduate students who meet eligibility requirements. Eligibility is determined using a standard formula to evaluate information the student provides on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

A first year recipient must be Pell Grant eligible, graduated after 1/1/ 2006, and completed a rigorous curriculum in high school. This award is up to $750 per year. A second year recipient must be Pell Grant eligible, graduated after 1/1/05, have a 3.0 and completed at least 27 semester hours, and completed a rigorous curriculum in high school. This award is up to $1,300 per year.

This money does not have to be paid back, as long as you remain enrolled more that 60% of that semester. Both awards are divided equally between Fall and Spring semesters and credited to the student's account. Any remaining balance of financial aid (after fees are paid) is mailed to the student after mid-term of the enrolled semester.
