Requirements for Career Program Students

Beginning freshmen who are pursuing a career certificate may be admitted on one of the following bases:
1. High school diploma or GED graduate.

2. Non-high school graduate or non-GED completer.


The following are required for beginning freshmen students pursuing a career certificate:

1. Submit an application for admission.

2. For high school graduates or GED completers: Submit an official high school transcript or submit an official GED transcript with passing scores. Official transcripts are those transcripts that come directly from the high school or GED office to the Admissions Office. The transcript should be mailed or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope and must not be stamped "issued to student." Official transcripts must bear the signature of the appropriate school official, the institution's seal, and a graduation date, if applicable.

3. For non-high school graduates or non-GED completers (minimum age 17):

a. Submit minimum ACT score of 13 or take the Compass test and earn a minimum combined score of 57 before registering for classes. Some programs may require higher scores. Students should refer to their specific career program section in the catalog for this information.

b. Prior to registering, applicants 19 years of age or younger must have a letter of recommendation from the principal of their last school sent to the District Office of Admissions and Records.

c. To be eligible to receive financial aid, non-graduates or non-GED completers must meet the minimum "Ability to Benefit" scores for the Compass Placement test.

4. Interview with an advisor in their major field of study.

Applicants for Barbering and Practical Nursing


The following are additional requirements for students applying for Barbering and Practical Nursing Career Programs:
1. Barbering students must make a specific score on the Compass placement test. Applicants should refer to the Barbering program requirements in the catalog for minimum score information.

2. Practical Nursing students must make a specific score on the Compass placement test or ACT. Applicants should refer to the section on Admission for Nursing and Allied Health Programs in the catalog for minimum score information.
